LendingTree Security Breach
Potential Class Action Investigation
Chimicles & Tikellis LLP is investigating a potential class action lawsuit on behalf of current and former customers of LendingTree arising out of a recent data breach at the company. LendingTree recently revealed that some of the loan request forms that its customers submitted to it may have been obtained and used by other mortgage lending companies. These customer loan request forms contain highly sensitive information, such as the applicant’s social security number, income, and employment status.
According to LendingTree, other mortgage lending companies obtained and then used this information to market their own mortgage loans to LendingTree customers. LendingTree has reported that several of its former employees may have helped the other mortgage companies gain access to LendingTree’s customer information by divulging confidential passwords. In light of this security breach, LendingTree has suggested to its customers that they obtain a credit report and monitor their credit records.
C&T is investigating whether LendingTree violated the Fair Credit Reporting Act by failing to take adequate precautionary measures to safeguard this information. If you have submitted a customer loan request form and/or mortgage application to LendingTree at any point between October 2006 and January 2008, please contact the attorneys listed below.
