GEO Strip Searches

Practice: Civil Rights
Phase: Settled / Closed

The parties in a class action lawsuit against The GEO Group, Inc. (“GEO”) have agreed to a settlement valued up to $2.99 million to resolve a class action lawsuit involving allegedly unconstitutional strip searches. The settlement with GEO, a private entity that contracts with counties and other government bodies to manage and operate their prisons, provides relief for certain pre-trial detainees who were strip searched upon their admission into six different jails across the United States.

On October 13, 2010, the Honorable Jan E. Dubois issued an order granting final approval to the settlement. Additional information about the settlement may be obtained by calling the settlement administrator toll-free at 1-877-234-4512, or by visiting the settlement website at: http://www.multistatestripsearchsettlement.com/index.html.
