Hannaford Security Breach
Potential Class Action Investigation

Chimicles & Tikellis LLP is investigating a potential class action lawsuit on behalf of consumers who have had their credit and debit card numbers compromised by a recent intrusion into Hannaford’s computer network. Hannaford is a large supermarket that operates stores in New England and New York under that name, and in Florida under the name Sweetbay.

It has been reported that the data breach at Hannaford exposed 4.2 million credit and debit card numbers, and has led to 1,800 cases of fraud. Hannaford has indicated that it first became aware of “suspicious credit card activity” on February 27. However, it has been reported that the data breach at Hannaford began as early as December 7, the breach was not actually contained until March 10, and the company allegedly did not inform the public of the breach until March 17.
